Good Old Fashioned Cookout

One of our traditions while on vaca in Michigan is a good old fashioned cookout.  And by old fashioned - I mean we cook our hotdogs, on sticks cut from trees, over a fire.

Here are my dudes with Jude (yes, Jude!) pre cookout.

BTW - Jude will be THIRTEEN on August 14th!!!!!

 Papa Dave and the boys rounded up firewood and cooking sticks...

 Nana and I prepared the sides and the fixins...

 Let the weenie roasting begin!

(FYI right after our dogs were cooked, it POURED!!!!)

 But we didn't let a little rain dampen our spirits...we waited for it to pass and kept eating and eating and eating...here is John enjoying some of Nana's baked beans (yes, that is the serving spoon he is eating from)...

 And after dinner it was time for some Smores...yum!

Once Johnny B retired for the evening, we all snuck in a little night cap of reading (I love that my parents kept some of Emily and I's favorite books - now they can read them to our kids!)
