Oh what a beautiful morning!
Oh what a beautiful day!
Our final stop for Day 4 was Red Rocks. Again, we totally didn't expect to go there, it was not on the script - we were going to go to the museum in downtown Denver, but as luck would have it, Red Rocks was about 1 minute from the Morrison Museum so we went there instead! I mean, we can go to museums all day long in Houston if we want - but we can't see this!!!!! (See Will in a red shirt and me next to the giant boulder). This place was AMAZING...period....
Billy got a little creative by putting Flat Stanley on top of the rocks...
Then we drove up the scenic drive - this place was positively breathtaking...and we had beautiful weather...
At the top of the scenic drive is the outdoor Red Rocks Amphitheater - a natural amphitheater where concerts are still held today...and where concerts were held hundreds of years ago by the Ute Indians!
At one point, Will got about 1,325 splinters in his hand from the railing in the background, so while Billy performed minor surgery (for about 45 minutes) John and I, feeling somewhat inspired by the beauty and grandeur of this place, channeled our inner super hero - in this case, Superman...
Once his splinters were out, we hopped on a rock for a family photo (yes, I totally defaced this large piece of rock with a '14 (bottom left) using some sandstone nearby :)
Next we parked and began the walk up to the amphitheater - side note, I have absolutely no idea how people could possibly drink alcoholic beverages and walk these stairs!
Thankfully we were sober :)
The boys and I checked out the stage...
And stopped off for one more photo and our trip was done!
That night we headed for Denver, our hotel room, our beds, and prepared for our flight home the next morning.
This trip was absolutely phenomenal...we hope to go back to Colorado next year for spring break...maybe a different village...maybe some different sight seeing activities...but it was truly the trip of a lifetime and I feel so fortunate to have shared it with these guys!
