Two Words Come to Mind....

Water
Displacement

This pudgy baby is really starting to enjoy bath time.
He is so huge we had to remove the hammock and he now sits and slaps at the water relentlessly (with his left hand, dad!).  He is beyond adorable and I just giggle at his roundness!

Here he is splashing...

And here he is beginning to slowly topple due to his over exuberance...
I just love his plump biceps!

And here is is on the verge of a face plant...
And I don't know about you, but that hip roll/rump is just begging to be pinched!

Members Only...Continued!

Wednesday Will and I had a 'date night'...we headed back to the Houston Museum of Natural Science for a special event...Dr. Bob Bakker's lecture!  In case you don't know...Dr. Bakker is this guy...the head Curator at the museum...and Will was very pumped to meet him...

He was one of the main advisors for Jurassic Park and the character, Dr. Robert Burke in the motion picture, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, was based on him!

Sadly...Dr. Bakker had a family emergency and had to cancel for only the SECOND time in TWENTY years!  Will didn't really care as much as I did...but we still were able to receive the lecture from the associate Paleontology Curator at the museum, David Temple...and it was A.W.E.S.O.M.E.!

Here is Will with the Acrocanthosaurus...

And under the member banner (he requested this photo)...

Here's my little nerd student awaiting the lecture...he reminds me so much of me!

And here is a picture of the part of the lecture that got all the kid's attention!
Coprolite!
AKA
Dinosaur Poop!
And yes, there is plenty of it on display in the hall!

Members Only!

Tonight, at 7:30pm, Will and I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of the Houston Museum of Natural Science's brand new Paleontology Hall...it was a members only exhibit sneak peek and we were in AWE of all the amazing fossils of not only dinosaurs, but also pterosaurs and prehistoric mammals on display!  It was FANTASTIC!!!!!  We also saw an amazing 3D Imax on Pterosaurs!

Will had such a good time...our ride home entailed conversations about trilobites and sloths and megalodons and dinosaurs and so much more....it was awesome seeing him so enthusiastic about all the things he was able to check out this evening...

There was so much to see and do, and I know I've provided way too many photographs but I know Nana Julie and Papa Dave are anxiously awaiting these....(I apologize in advance for my amateur photography skills with the dramatic lighting in the hall)

The arrival....

T-Rex!

Rhamphoryinchus...

Quetzalcoatlus...

Giant Three Toed Sloth...

Giant Armadillo (I'm not kidding!) and 'the family that refused to move'...

Mammoth...

Another! T-Rex...

This was a super cool exhibit and I totally expect my parents to spend at least 1 hour in here in the fall...Jurassic time period petrified wood gallery...absolutely stunning stuff in here!

Balloon exhibit :) Of course Will requested a T-Rex...

Mososaurus (we may or may not have played this in the tub tonight :))

Megaladon mouth (and a poor unsuspecting mammal going for a swim)

Another! Mammoth...

Triceratops...

T-Rex (again!)

Allosaurus fossilized footprint...

 Triceratops horn...

Allosaurus tooth...

T-Rex brain (poor guy...never had a chance haha!)

Deinonychus...this is cool because you can see here that one of the most terrifying dinosaurs was not much bigger than Will!

Pterodactyl...

Pteranodons...

Dimetrodon...

Dimetrodon fossil...

Saber Toothed Tiger...

Postosuchus...

Allosaurus...

and last but not least, my favorite...Stegosaurus...

We pretended to be high society by snacking on the finger foods they provided...

And of course caught a movie...

The only thing that could possibly be more awesome than this is occurring this Wednesday...
Stay Tuned!!!

Eczema Eczema Go AWAY!

Little Johnny B. has developed (in my opinion a really bad case of) eczema...it all started at about 3 1/2 months old and has been frustrating us ever since.  His face/eyes are the worst part and he has some large red splotches all over his body...the only thing keeping me sane at this point is that although they look dry/scratchy/painful, they don't seem to bother him one bit.

The other day in a moment of mommy frustration, I booked him an appointment with my dermatologist who suggested the following combination of prescription strength and over the counter treatments...my dermatologist is awesome...I totally trust her, she even did her residency at MD Anderson so she must be fantastic...but this just seems so crazy to be putting all of these things on a baby, but doctors know best right?

We have tried everything under the sun to fix this...if anyone else has any (natural/organic/proven) ideas on what to try, let us know!

Nom nom nom nom....

A few weeks ago, John found his feet...
Yes, sadly - I'm no longer the only one who munches on these bad boys...

The good thing is, it also provides John a good bit of exercise...you see, when you are this chubby, it takes quite a bit of strength to hoist up these ham hocks!!!

Will The Science Kid

I like to do science experiments with Will on a regular basis...it is one of my favorite things in the world to do...

Sometimes the experiments work and sometimes they fail (darn you bottle that is supposed to burp after being frozen and covered with a wet quarter!) Sometimes the experiments are really simple but sometimes, I get in a little over my head.

This was one of those "over my head" times...we made paper machete planets!!!

I think Will had the most fun during the prep period (i.e. making the gooey gluey concoction to use for applying the newspaper to our balloons)

Things got a little messy during the newspaper application phase...

But for the most part Will kept everything pretty clean...

Once they were dry, it was time to paint (and yes, Johnny B was there to drool supervise)!

Everyone was really happy to get messy with paint!

We talked about solid planets and gaseous planets and planets with more than one moon and planets with rings and planets that aren't considered planets anymore (poor Pluto!) and the location of planets in our solar system and of course the color of planets.

In the end we ended up with some awesome planets of our own!
