I hate this word...
If it were an inanimate object, I would kick it, throw it, shove it, hit it, spit on it, you name it...
But I can't...all I can do is try not to worry and take care of my little one the best I can...It is a condition where the baby's head flattens out (usually on the back) due to parents putting their babies on their backs to sleep rather than their bellies (because of SIDS). And John loves sleeping...he slept from 9pm-7:30am last night! And he doesn't move around much...so he is always sleeping right on the back of his head....
Sometimes just repositioning and making adjustments to activities helps round it out again.
Sometimes the babies have to wear a special pressurized helmet.
Sometimes the babies will need surgery.
The fact that we are going through this is fairly ironic considering not only what we've been through so far (during the pregnancy) but also what a wonderful, happy, content and sleep loving baby he is.
So...
We have to make adjustments...and see how things go.
No more car seats...
No more swings...
No more stroller (see ya later Bob!)...
No more back time at all during awake moments (no more Jungle Gym, cradling in our arms, and we even are adjusting his feeding positions to an almost upright position on a huge mound of pillows to take pressure off the back of his skull)...
Prop him up a bit when possible to sleep...
When he is awake, he is able to do two things only...be on his tummy or be upright in our arms (think head on shoulder)...
We are taking profile pictures to document his recovery for when we take him in for his 4 month checkup.
You know what they say, If He brings you to it, He will bring you through it...so come on prayer warriors! Pray with us!
