Mommy Down

About a month ago, the lovely streptococcus virus went through our house taking down Billy, then John, then me.  Will never got it (carrier!).  Anyway - lucky (?) for me, it hit me on President's Day.  So, I already had the day off of work, and had big plans for the two boys and I as they were out of school.  But I woke up in the morning with a ridiculous fever.  Instead of hitting the parks, going to lunch, and going to glow in the dark putt-putt, I surrendered to the illness and the three of us spent TWO hours in the doctor's office instead.

I gave the boys clear rules...no yelling, no fighting, no touching mommy, no asking mommy to carry them, no whining, and above all else, no touching anything in the doctor's office.  We got there, waited an hour in the waiting room, then made our way back to the patient area where we waited for another hour.  At one point I actually laid down on the exam table and dozed off while they waited patiently in the additional chairs.  After a flu test (which I think was more traumatizing for them to watch than it was for me to endure - I think Johnny might have slugged the nurse if he had the chance) and a strep test, we were out the door with a prescription.

When we got home the boys ate lunch and then I told them that I needed to go lay down (seriously, I had a 102 degree fever).  I instructed Will to take John upstairs, put him in his bed, and then read him a story.  Once John was sleeping, I told Will to practice his piano, then come downstairs and complete his  homework assignments and reading assignments.  I asked Will to wake me up if there were any emergencies and if John got up before me, to make sure he supplied him a snack.

So I laid down.
And I turned on the monitor.
And within minutes I heard Will's sweet little voice "parenting" John, to get into bed.
I then heard him read John a story.
Moments later, I heard Johnny snoring soundly.
A few moments after that, I heard Will plunking along on the piano just as I had asked.
At that point, I dozed off.
When I woke up THREE hours later, I discovered John was awake, Will had gotten him a snack and a drink, and both boys were quietly watching cartoons.
I also found Will's homework assignments done and reading log completed.

My boys were perfect angels, all day...because they knew I needed it.
They knew I couldn't make it without them.

And when I woke up the next morning, I had cards waiting for me...how adorable!
