So for Fall Ball this year we decided not to play for real little league - instead we thought we would give Will a "break" from the big leagues (and us too ;) ) and do a league a tad more relaxed and less intense. And by less intense, I mean only one practice a week instead of two, and no weekday games. We will save all of that for the Spring!
We decided to sign Will up for Destiny Sports baseball...a Christian based camp/league run by the head baseball coach at Will's school. And Billy signed up to be the coach of Will's team, the Gold Team.
We started out with quite a bit of weekend practice leading up to the first camp - and Will's favorite fan was there to assist :)
Finally it was time for the first Saturday camp. Will showed off his fabulous form!
And soon it was time for the games to begin!
Here are some photos of Will warming up...
And here are some fun pics of Will at bat! He nearly hit a double every at bat!
Notice he began working on his weight shift :)
Will had the opportunity to play a lot of 1st base this season...and he rocked it!
Here is some good footage caught by my Nikon of one of Will's at bats...
And as expected - Will played a lot of 2nd base too! His favorite position...here he is making a play at 1st.
Will also improved his sliding form this Fall...mostly because he had so many doubles!
And he also got to try out the catcher's gear a few innings...how adorable!
And lastly - Will played quite a bit of pitcher - which makes me nervous going into Spring ball because the kids hit it so darn hard! Note to self - get a helmet w/ a face mask! He rocked it at the mound this Fall - making tons of plays at 1st!
Here he is with one of his teammates - they usually played in the same infield rotation together and were a great combo!
They also made a good team fixing up the field after games :) This is the first time Will has EVER used a rake....
And Will's team even won a game on a cold and rainy rainbow Saturday (Will is on the mound)...what a cool picture!
So finally, we made it through the season, to the final Saturday double header.
Will's team was barely in the lead over the other's - so we were all very nervous!
Before we headed to the fields, we took a few final photos...of our little sharp dressed man...
And then...the Gold Team in all their glory clinched the season championship!
Billy was an awesome head coach - and had great support from a few other dads...
Because he is such a good coach - Billy got each of the kiddos their own game balls - and wrote a baseball characteristic they exemplified over the course of the season on each kiddo's baseball, personalizing their efforts and contributions to the team.
Billy wrote "Fundamental" on Will's - and he couldn't be more accurate!
He may not be the biggest, strongest, fastest kid on the team - but every thing he does from fielding, to base running, to hitting, is fundamentally sound.
And now for your viewing pleasure - just a few of Will's batting highlights....
Now we will take a break until the Spring!
