Thanksgiving 2013 - A LOT to be thankful for....

Soooooooooooooo....where do I start?
Thanksgiving 2013 was supposed to be magnificent -- my parents are in town, it was going to be fabulous...then we lost power Wednesday night....yes....The Woodlands was without power for about three hours which we thought was thoroughly annoying so we headed to Chick Fil-A for some dinner.

When we got back to the house we lit some candles and waited for the power to come back on...once it did...we blew the candles out...and Will...blew a tad too hard.

One second we were all giggling about how happy we were that the power came back on...the next instant we heard Will screaming after blowing out a candle and it sparking back INTO HIS EYE.

And I have never heard a kid scream like this before...and never want to hear it again...
Billy and I threw him under the kitchen faucet, flushing his eye, then raced to the ER as fast as we could.  Once they numbed his eye, they flushed it thoroughly and swabbed away soot that was literally burned into his eyeball.  Then came the big test - the dye.

They dropped some dye into his eye and then using an infrared light, were able to determine the extent of the corneal burn.  Where you see GREEN below, directly on his pupil and then downward is where his eye was burned.  After I had what may have been a nervous breakdown in the ER, we headed home with some prescription meds and a very tired boy.

To cut to the chase - we followed up with Children's Memorial Hermann in the medical center Friday and Will is A-OK!  Looks like all of my praying (and crying) paid off :)

Thanksgiving day was kind of laid back...Will and John watched A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving at least 345 times (yes - Will was told to wear sunglasses all day by the docs)...

Then it was time for some family photos...aren't these guys cute?

I can't believe I took my brace off for this...I will NOT do that again...

The Treys....

The Browns...

And then once we were all good and full...we headed out for the obligatory post Thanksgiving feast walk around the neighborhood...or in Will's case...scooter ride...which resulted in this...he spun out in some muddy puddle and face planted.

Thank GOD he was wearing a helmet and his sunglasses because he would have been in much worse shape!  He came home with a goose egg on his forehead and a pretty nasty cut above his lip.

It was a pretty rough rest of the day...but by bed time he was back to his old self....

So Thanksgiving 2013 is in the books - and we are super thankful that Will's eye is ok and he is recovering (slowly) from his scrapes and bruises!!!!

Here's hoping Thanksgiving 2014 is SAFER!
