Ask Them What They Wish For

So, you know how kids make wishes...

Like, when blowing out the candles on their birthday cakes...
Like, when they see a shooting star...
Like, when they lose an eyelash and you snag it off their cheek before it gets in their eye and they blow it out of your fingers...

Well...next time, just do it...ask them what they wished for...

The other day, Will lost one of his eyelashes...I fetched it off his cheek just below his lower eyelid in the nick of time.  Holding it between my thumb and forefinger I said, ok, make a wish.  He blew it out of my grasp and then we had this little conversation.

Will: "Mommy, don't you want to know what I wished for?"
Me: "No Will, then it won't come true!"
Will: "But I really want to tell you!"
Me: "Fine, I'll keep it a secret"
Will: "I wish I could see a REAL dinosaur."
Me (eyes welling...):  "Awe babe, I wish we could do that, but we can't" (huge frowny face)

Now that's a tough one for a mommy...because I can't quite get that at Target...or go back in time 228 million years or so...so I'll have to come up with something else...

I'm working on something BIG, but in the meantime, I made his lunch napkins dino themed for the rest of the week :)
